Stone-washed flax · Clyro
A cloth that falls over the edge.
Heavy flax linen, stone-washed until it drapes rather than sits, in a charcoal that reads almost black by candlelight. Cut long on purpose, so it hangs over the edge of the table instead of stopping at it.
The crease
It creases, and should.
Linen creases. That is not a flaw to be ironed out — washed linen is meant to lie in soft, broken folds.
Iron it flat if you like, but the cloth is designed to be read as fabric, not as a pressed sheet.
The wash
It improves with use.
The stone wash is done before the cloth reaches you, which is why it arrives with its hand already broken in rather than stiff off the loom.
Every wash takes it further in the direction it was already going. It looks better on the tenth dinner than the first.
Why this cloth
Four things worth knowing.
What the cloth is made of, how big it is, how it reads in the room, and how you look after it.
100 % flax
Flax, washed
100% flax linen, stone-washed. The wash is what gives the cloth its weight in the hand and its fall over an edge.
160 × 260 cm
Cut long
Sized to seat six and still hang over the sides, rather than stopping level with the table edge.
Charcoal, matte
A deep charcoal with a matte finish. Under candles it reads close to black and lets the plates do the talking.
Machine washable
Cool wash, hang or tumble low, no bleach. It softens with every wash instead of wearing out its welcome.
Measurements are for the flat cloth and may vary very slightly, as woven linen does.
It looks better on the tenth dinner than the first.
On the table
Nothing here is ceremonial.
Weeknights
It is meant to be used. Cool wash, low tumble, back on the table.
Occasions
The matte charcoal takes candlelight without throwing it back at anyone, and lets the plates do the talking.
Charcoal is photographed by candlelight and under daylight; screens render dark tones differently, so the depth of the colour in the room may not be the depth on your display.

Questions
Before you order.
Will it fit my table?
The cloth is 160 × 260 cm, sized to seat six with a fall over the edge. Measure your table top and subtract it from those figures — what is left is split between the two sides, so a 100 × 200 cm table leaves 30 cm hanging all round.
Does it need ironing?
Not unless you want it to. Washed linen is meant to lie in soft folds, and hanging it straight from the machine is enough to settle most of them.
Will it shrink?
It is stone-washed before it reaches you, so most of the movement has already happened. Wash cool and hang or tumble low, as on the care line, and keep it out of a hot wash.
Are the napkins the same cloth?
Yes — the Set of Six is the same stone-washed charcoal flax, so the two sit together rather than nearly matching. They are sold separately.
How long does delivery take?
It ships free. Most orders arrive within one to two weeks, with tracking from the moment the parcel is scanned.
Goes with it
